The profession of teaching has evolved considerably over the past century and so have our times. We live in a world today that is more interconnected than ever. With instant global connectivity, we have the opportunity to learn, engage, communicate, collaborate, understand, and gain perspectives from around the globe. For this reason, our students should be able to think and act globally. To prepare our students for their global future, it is our job to teach them the 21st century global skills that are essential in fostering good global citizenship. Many of our students are under-prepared globally for what their futures hold. As domestic economies and businesses go global, our students won't be competing with each other for jobs in the future. They will be competing with kids from China, India, and other places in the world. Many American students today know little about the world that exists beyond their regional borders. What they do know of the world in a global sense often comes from what they see in the news and what they hear from others. For this reason, I see our jobs as educators critical in helping students learn about the world and breaking down the walls of ignorance and building bridges of cross-cultural understanding. One ally in this mission is the use of technology. As we all know, technology rules supreme in the daily lives our our students and can have a big impact on the way they learn. Our classrooms and schools are becoming more technology-centered and we must keep up with the times. In the sphere of global education, technology is essential. Check out my Digital Learning page for ideas and resources for technology use in the global education classroom. _____________________________________________ In this section you will find a variety of resources to help you frame your teaching in a global context and help your students act and think globally.
